A Generous Sprig of Rosemary

If you want to impress your dinner guests this weekend, add a garnish to their plates. Taking a few extra minutes to pick out an appropriate garnish just might have your friends thinking you've been sneaking off to gourmet cooking classes...or reading a darn informative blog online...!!!

Okay, so you've decided to do the garnish thing. How do you decide what garnish goes with what food? I'd say it's really up to you. You are allowed to come up with your own combinations in your own kitchen afterall. Here are some ideas to get your creative juices flowing...

Try a sprig of Rosemary with a chicken dish. A few cherry tomatoes and parsley with a steak dinner. Dill or lemon with salmon. A dollop of sour cream or plain yogurt in a soup. A basil leaf on the side of a pasta dish. I think you get the idea.

But don't stop there! You might as well garnish your drinks too. Do you know what they had in water glasses at the last hotel restaurant I ate at? Cranberries. Bright, red, floating cranberries. It looked fantastically festive! Salt or sugar the rims of your cocktail glasses. Impale raspberries or strawberries on toothpicks. And don't forget the olives!
