Tears always flow when I chop onions. It drives me crazy when I watch food shows and the chefs do it so easily without even batting an eyelash. I've read some tips on how to avoid tears when it comes to this task.
1. Cut the onion in half, then keep it in the freezer for about 30 minutes before chopping.
2. Cut it in half, let the running water from the faucet through it.
3. If all else fails, just buy yourself an onion chopper from your local store or if you want to be fancy and willing to invest in a good quality one, check out Pampered Chef for a really nice food chopper that is also good for chopping everything else.
Here are some other tips that might interest you.
