Baking Winter Squash

What's the best way to cook winter squash? Why, bake it, of course!

Baking winter squash brings out a rich, roasted flavour that microwaving cannot accomplish.

Start by washing the outside of the squash.

Cut the squash in half. You may need to use a butcher knife because the rind of some of the winter squashes can be quite hard.

Once the squash is halved, scoop out the seeds and scrape the stringy thingys out.

Place the squash flesh side down on a cooking sheet, add a tad of water (for a slight steaming action).

Then place the squash into a 350 degree preheated oven.

Cover with tin foil and bake for about an hour, or until the squash has a bit of give when it is pressed.

Once the squash is cook, remove from the oven, uncover and let cool until it is safe to handle.

Once cool, scrape out the flesh with a spoon.

Use the squash flesh in a recipe, or eat as a side dish.

Happy Cooking!

I love your blogs, Lesli! You not only give recipes or tell us how to cook food items, but you often describe their taste, texture and tell us a bit about them. Keep up the great work!
