Whipping up omelettes is considered pretty impressive, especially to those that have only experienced an omelette made to order at a fancy hotel's Sunday Brunch. Most would not consider making omelettes at home. Start a trend and try making your omelettes in the convenience of your own kitchen.
Omelettes appear to require skill, but really all you need is a trusty pan. At the fancy brunches, the chef usually uses a small, non-stick pan - nothing fancy. I use a flat, round pan with a slight edge. It's not non-stick, so I give it a quick coating of cooking spray before the start of each omelette.
The other hint is to make sure you have all of your ingredients chopped and ready to go. This is especially true if you are making four omelettes in a row.
Before you pour the egg mixture onto the pan, splash a bit of water on your fingers and flick onto the pan. You want to hear a bit of a sizzle.
To prepare the omelette base:
Take 2 eggs and break them into a bowl. With a fork, whisk until bubbles form. Add a tsp. of water. Again whisk the mixture with a fork. Pour the egg mixture onto the hot pan. Tilt the pan to spread the egg evenly. Cook until the egg has set, maybe 3-4 minutes. In the meantime add your desired toppings. Once the toppings are warmed, and the cheese is melted, take a flipper and fold one half of the omelette onto the other half. It's now ready to serve!
The convenience of an omelette is that you can put anything your heart desires in it. Any kind of cheese tastes delicious. Most vegetables taste great with eggs. If you're cooking for several people, they can all order different toppings according to their tastes. Everyone's happy!
What ingredients does your most memorable omelette have in it?
Happy Cooking!
