Ginger: Good for a Cold

It's hard to believe that a food that looks like an old man's yellowed and shrivelled toe, can be so soothing and medicinal.

I often use fresh ginger in my cooking and I also brew it as a tea. Because of it's anti-inflammatory properties, ginger tea is a soothing drink when you think you are getting a cold, or if the cold actually takes hold.

I peel and cut a one inch piece of ginger and brew it with 2 c. of hot water. Let the tea brew for 3 minutes. You can add some cayenne pepper to kickstart your immune system. Add a bit of honey if 'a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down'.

And remember to get your rest too, summer colds can really get you down!

Happy Cooking!
