Do you throw out the crusts of your bread? Or as my British friend calls the crust - the heel. Well, whatever you call it, the crust can come in pretty handy...once it's made into bread crumbs.
I always have a large container of bread crumbs in my freezer. When I'm cooking something that needs to be breaded, as in my Chicken Parmesan, or Shrimp Scampi, I just open my freezer and there's my bread crumb collection.
Bread crumbs, or even crusts come in handy when you're making up a stuffing.
Bread crumbs can also be mixed in with a bit of butter to provide that crunchy topping for the top of baked macaroni and cheese, or tuna casserole.
So, save your crusts. Dry them in the oven, then throw them into your food processor. Once processed, keep them in an air tight container in your freezer.
Happy Cooking,
- Lesli
