I said I was going to conquer my fear and finally make my own gingerbread house this year, didn't I. Albeit it was from a kit, it was still a painstakingly process. Who knew you have to make sure the icing is covered with a damp cloth so it stays in spreadable consistency. And that you have to hold the pieces together once glued with icing to keep them sturdy and wait 'till they've harden so you can work on the rest. Wheww. But I persevered.

I used the attached manual as my design guide but after a while I did my own thing. With my son's help. He suggested what I should do with the candies and stuff like that. He and I had fun. I'm sure he wished he was able to lick the icing but since it was late at night, I told him to keep his hands off it. :)
My gingerbread house doesn't look perfect but it looks pretty damn good. I'm sure it'll take a lot of practice for me to make swirlies and otehr designs with the icing.Well, one year at a time right? :)
