A cook/chef is only as good as her/his cooking gadgets, eh? You can't love food and cooking without loving pans, crock-pots, and all the kitchen/cooking gadgets available to your heart's content. One of those cooking items I've always wanted were different sizes of Iron Skillets. Iron Skillet is commonly known as cast iron cookware. The skillets has been around for hundreds of years and IS the choice of cookware for every cooks/chefs. An iron skillet has the ability to withstand and maintain high heat temperature and diffusion and retention as well. It's perfect for cooking eggs, cornbread and upside-down cake, chilis, soups/stews..etc. The Upside-Down Cake was actually the dish where I first encountered Cast Iron Skillets.

Anyway, I saw a box of 3-set Classic Iron Skillet at the Military department store last month for $11.99 which I happily showed my husband. He knew I've always wanted my own set so he bought it for me. :)

The skillets are seasoned which is an important fact when you're thinking about buying your own. Season means, a layer of oil has been cooked onto the pan. This prevents rusting and protects the food from interacting with the iron on the pan. Most iron skillets sold these days are seasoned. Since they were seasoned, I just had to follow the cleaning instructions attached before using them. Warm water and soap dish.
So what did I cook for my first cast iron skillets? Well, breakfast of course. Eggs, Taters and Bacon. :)
