My Mother-in-Law's Manhattan Clam Chowder

I'm more of a New England Clam Chowder kind of foodie but I never say no to my mother-in-law's delicious Manhattan Clam Chowder. She made it for the family reunion while we were there for our vacation. So here it is.

INGREDIENTS:
6 slices of bacon
1c diced onions
1c diced celery
1c diced carrots
1c diced potatoes
2tsp thyme
1 lg can clam juice(32oz)
1 lg can chopped clams
1 can tomatoes (26oz)

Cut bacon in 1/2 inch pieces and saute 'till brown, add onions cook till tender, add all rest of veggies and can of clam juice. Take the clams and put drained juice in pot and save clams for the last step. Cook veges and juice till tender, add reserved clams.
