
Tumeric is one of those super spices that you'll be alot better off healthwise eating than passing on. The active ingredient in tumeric is curcumin, which is thought to help your immune system, decrease your risk of polyps in the colon, lower yourcholesterol and help ease the pain and inflammation of arthritis. With a resume like that you'd be crazy not to use it in your cooking on a regular basis.
Tumeric is usually found in curry powder, so eating Indian food is a sure way to benefit from this magical spice. Actually studies have shown that the rate of Alzeimer's Disease is very low in India compared to the rest of the world. This is thought to be related to the fact that a lot more tumeric is consumed in India than in Western populations. Bring on the Beef Vindaloo and Chicken Masala !

It's turmeric. I don't care what other sites say, "tumeric" is just plain wrong. I've scanned the shelves of many a spice emporium in my time, and I can tell you truthfully that not once have I seen that spelling.
Oh, and "a lot" is two words, not one.

not trying to be picky or anything but it's tuRmeric. not tumeric. it's a common mistake (omitting the R).
i usually substitute turmeric for curry powder. i've found that it adds boldness to the dish.
