Something caught my eye in a recent Bon Appetit magazine. Hugh Garvey writes a section of the magazine called Starters. He scours the globe looking for all sorts of weird and delicious food trends. The trend that caught my eye was his report on a biodeisel car that runs on cooking oil!
Biodiesel is biodegradeable and has way lower emissions than what the general population uses in their vehicles currently. (Well, unless you ride a bicycle...) But don't go putting canola oil into your gas tank, the oil has to go through a chemical process called transesterification (Big word, eh?). If this intrigues you, read more about it on
the biodiesel website.
My question is, would extra virgin olive oil be a healthier choice for your car than vegetable oil ?
