The Winter Squash Files: Buckskin Pumpkin

Now, the Buckskin Pumpkin is buff coloured. Mostly people have been calling them white pumpkins. They were very popular this Halloween and were overflowing at my local grocery store.

Unique in that they are shaped like a traditional pumpkin, sans the orange colour.

What to do with this colourless squash, well, it's orange inside, so the flesh can be used as you would use a traditional orange pumpkin. Remember though, a good rule of thumb is that the smaller pumpkins are tastier. Save the huge pumpkins for carving!

In a side by side blind taste test, at my house, the white pumpkin seeds were bigger and meatier than the traditional orange pumpkin seeds, which were flatter, with less seed meat.

Hey, ya learn something new every day!

Happy Cooking!
