Lasagna can be a bit daunting for those who haven't made it before, or worse yet for those that have tried to make it only to have it turn out too runny/watery or burnt on the top.
I've made alot of good and bad lasagnas during my cooking career. And I think I've come to some conclusions. Here are my Top 5 Tips When Cooking Lasagna...
1. DO NOT add liquid to your pasta sauce. You want your sauce to be thick, especially if you add veggies to your sauce. The veggies will add extra liquid to your pasta sauce.
2. Add veggies to your lasagna - coloured peppers, carrots, kale - make it a one pot meal!
3. COVER your lasagna with aluminum foil while it bakes. If not, it will burn on top. Leave it covered for most of the baking time, only uncovering it during the last 15-20 minutes of baking.
4. Add extra garlic & spices, like oregano and basil. Play with the spices and get your own signature flavoured lasagna going.
5. Don't feel like you need to cook the lasagna noodles. The noodles do not have to be those 'no cook' noodles to use them uncooked. I use any lasagna noodles uncooked. Why bother playing with hot lasagna noodles when you don't need to?
Happy Cooking,
Lesli
