Venison is the fancy name for deer meat. Seriously. Last year, our landlord generously gave us deer meat which forced me to get creative in coming up with ways to cook 'em. As it turned out I didn't have to sweat hard coz I was able to cook our usual favourite dishes except I just had to use venison instead of beef or chicken. With the help of my trusty crock-pot, I made venison roast.

All you have to do is season the meat with salt and pepper, or whatever meat seasoning you have in your pantry. Stick it in the crock-pot, add 2 cups of water, then set the pot on low. I set it in low because I started it at 9 in the morning. If you start it around 11am or 12noon, you'll have to crank it up to high. After that you just let it cook for hours. You could turn the meat once in a while if you're like me who feels better knowing all the flavors are distributed evenly on both sides. 2 hours before dinner time, add the quartered potatoes, and chunks of carrots. After an hour, add the quartered onions.

For another idea, I decided to make stir-fry. Hey I'm Asian so there's no escaping it. I thinly sliced the venison meat, chopped 1 onion, and finely chopped 3 cloves of garlic. In a heated wok with oil, I sauteed the onions, and garlic, once the onions were transluscent, I then added the meat. I let that cook for a litlte bit then added broccoli, carrots and green peppers. In order not to burn the veggeis I added 1/3 cup of water. After cooking it for a bit, making sure the veggies were still crunchy, I added soy sauce and black pepper. If you want to add oyster sauce, go for it.
Easy, yet delicious venison dishes. There's really nothing to it. I have one suggestion though while partaking on any of these meals especially if you have kids, please do not talk about Bambi at the dining table. You might want to hide that DVD for at least a year or so :-)
