I first saw these as soon as I entered the fruit section of the Commissary last Saturday. Right next to the pink watermelon. I was very intrigued but didn't pick it up coz I wanted to show my husband first. After I finally filled my cart, I went back to the vegetable section to check if they put out more bargains. The Commissary we go to at an Air Force Base have a section for produce that are about a days old and priced really low just to get rid of them. The produce they put out there may not look too fresh but they still look good and if you use them in a matter of 5 days or so, they're still OK. Bargains are good :) . Anyway, as I was looking around, my husband wandered in the watermelon section and saw the yellow watermelon I was oggling at when I first entered the fruit section. I saw him bend down and I knew he was looking at the same yellow watermelon with the same questions I had.
He showed 'em to me with curious eyes and asked if I wanted to try them. A half of the watermelon cost $2.40. So I said why not. Plus the color really piqued my interest. My husband and I are the kind of foodies that would try anything at least once. Weird looking or not :) .

We waited until after our mandarin orange sherry pork dinner to finally taste this very intriguing color of watermelon. Surprisingly(or not) enough, it tastes just like the pink watermelon. The only difference is the color. Yellow flesh and white seeds as opposed to the regualr pink and black seeds. My husband and I were actually expecting either a lemony or pineapple taste. Now we know, pink or yellow, it still tastes like a watermelon, as it should be :) .
I searched Wikipedia prior to posting this post to find out more about this Yellow Watermelon but I only found one and it said it was bought in Netherlands. Interesting.
